Matthew Hilton

Matthew Hilton, RDI, (born 1957) is a British industrial designer of modern furniture, lighting, and sculptural works.

Hilton trained at Kingston Polytechnic (now Kingston University London), graduating in 1979 and was elected as Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in 2004, a title only 200 designers can hold and the highest honour within UK design. In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate from Kingston University for his contributions to British design.

“I have a strong interest in photography…Because photography is also about seeing something in your own way.
I build up a big library of images, which also remind me about how I felt about something.
For a design to last, for it to remain something that appeals, it must be doing something relatively new aesthetically – I think it needs to be stimulating.” – as shared with Dezeen
