Modus, one of the UKʼs foremost design manufacturers, will be launching new projects including collaboartions with Shin Azumi, Arik Levy, PearsonLloyd, Pengelly Design, Jonathan Prestwich, Christophe Pillet and Michael Sodeau, during salone 2013, at Edit, la pelota. Arik Levyʼs Geta range includes a sofa and credenza; both take reference from the classic Japanese footwear that incorporates an elevated wooden base. The sofa is a flexible, modular system that is available in two different versions with optional storage arm or plinth. Geta is also available as a single unit armchair or compact sofa. Made with solid oak base, hardwood frame and foam and fibre cushions, Geta offers substantial comfort and a broad scope of seating solutions.
The Geta credenza is a multi-functional unit with open display and door-front options. The three options for the base and top combine with internal units to create a modular storage solution in various configurations for meeting spaces and or residential environments including bedrooms. Geta is available in a range of timbers, veneers and painted lacquers.
Taking inspiration from tailoring, this soft shell chair is a new design departure for PearsonLloyd, demonstrating an economic use of materials and allowing each part of the chair to be separated and recycled at the end of its life. The upholstery is flat-packed, further reducing its carbon footprint. Hem is fun to use, affordable, lightweight but serious about minimising its environmental impact. Hem is perfect for use in hospitality and workplace projects.
One of Modusʼ leading products is the PLC chair, also by PearsonLloyd, now with a new addition to the range - a high bar stool. Produced from solid oak or beech with a pressed ply matching seat and backrest. Available in painted beech or oak with optional upholstered seat and/or backrest. For projects, an extensive range of paint finishes, contract fabrics and leathers are available. Applications include hotels, bar, conference and residential.
Simon Pengelly was keen to explore traditional chair making techniques with his new Norse Chair for Modus. Norse is a contemporary take on a Scandinavian style chair, steam-bent wood is key to the chairʼs production and design. The chair has a light and airy appeal with a distinctive contour; Norse would sit comfortably in either a domestic, hospitality or contract setting.
Meta, the multi-award winning shelving system for Modus, was Simon Pengellyʼs first design for the company back in 2001. Simon has recently re-engineered a new version that offers greater flexibility. By adding components such as storage boxes, varying height shelves and by offering it in different materials, Meta has metamorphosed into a wholly new piece of furniture.
